Estimate your maintenance calories and an educational range for gradual weight change.

Daily Calorie Estimator

Units

Calorie figures are general estimates. People with medical conditions, who are pregnant, or who take medication affecting weight should get individual advice from a qualified professional.

SeafarerFit provides educational information, health calculators, screening tools and medical-examination preparation resources. It does not provide diagnosis, treatment, medical certification or official determination of fitness for sea service.

Your answers are calculated in your browser and are not sent to SeafarerFit.

How the estimate works

Your maintenance estimate is your BMR (Mifflin-St Jeor) multiplied by your activity factor. For gradual weight loss or gain, the educational range adjusts maintenance by about 250–500 kcal per day — a pace that is generally easier to sustain than large cuts.

Calories on board

Ship life changes energy needs. Engine-room heat, cold weather on deck, physically demanding cargo operations and long sedentary watches all play a part. Galley meals are often generous, and snacks are easy to reach on night watches. Use the estimate as a starting point, watch the trend in your weight over several weeks, and adjust.
