Seafarer Medical Requirements in Germany
In Germany, the maritime medical service (Seeärztlicher Dienst) of BG Verkehr is responsible for seafarer fitness examinations on behalf of the federal government, and authorises the doctors who perform them.

Examination information
Examinations are performed by doctors authorised by the maritime medical service.

Medical certificate
International minimums (MLC, 2006 Standard A1.2 and STCW Regulation I/9) cap medical certificates at two years (one year for seafarers under 18) and colour-vision certification at six years. National rules may be stricter.
